Ramu Madanan is a passionate Kalaripayattu Artist and a Lawyer on the professional front. Hailing from Kerala, he started practicing Kalaripayattu from the childhood. Experienced for about 20 years and performed over 200 stages at National & International platforms, he has showcased the ancient art form to the contemporary society.
Awards & Achievements:
Ramu has won Kalaripayattu National Championship twice representing state of Karnataka. And for the outstanding contributions in Kalaripayattu, the Government of Karnataka honored him with Bangalore Youth Award in the year 2014. Ramu has been selected as member of International Dance Council of UNESCO in the year 2019
for his achievements in the art form.
Experience:
Ramu Madanan, Founder of Kalari Manoeuvre, began his Kalaripayattu training under the guidance of Asan Vinildas, Shivashakthi Kalari Kshethram, Cochin. The debut was at Fort Kochi in 2004.
Ramu has worked voluntarily as a Performer & Instructor for Kalari Academy Bangalore from 2005 to 2017 under the guidance of Artisitic Director Ranjan Mullaratt. During the tenure he has also undergone traditional training in CVN Kalari centres under the tutelage of Rajagopal Gurukkal, Indran Gurukkal, Vikas Gurukkal and Sanal Asan.
Performance highlights:
- Conducted Kalaripayattu Lecture Demo organised by The India Center in New York (Oct 2023)
- Presented Kalaripayattu for the International Incluisve Dance Fest at Vigo, Spain (2023)
- Represented India in the 58th World Congress of Dance Research in Greece, organized by CID, UNESCO & Cultural Ministry of Greece (2022).
- Organized Cultural Exchange Program in Nepal as part of Kalari Manoeuvre’s awareness Program ‘Kalari Anubhav’ in the year 2022.
- Introduced Kalaripayattu during the General Assembly of CID, UNESCO in Paris, year 2019.
- Represented India in the International Arts Festival 2016 in Moscow. The event was organized by the Cultural Ministry of Russia.
- Performed Kalaripayattu for a drama based on Mahabharata in Jakarta, Indonesia in the year 2011.
- Worked with TV5 French Channel for Documentary on Kalaripayattu in the year 2014.
- Performed before Prime Minister of India during the inaugural ceremony of Transstadia, Ahmedabad in the year 2017

- Presented Kalari for Konark Dance & Music Festival 2009 in Orissa
- Demonstrated Kalaripayattu in Bangalore Ganesh Utsav among 500 dancers in DVG Road. The event has become part of Limca Book of Records.
- Performed for Indian Culture for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in various occasions.
- Demonstrated stunt for Kannada movies, English documentaries and monthly magazines
- Worked for Kalari Margam, a pictorial book released by Kalari Gurukulam in the year 2014.
- Performed for CVN Kalari centenary celebrations at Thalassery, Kerala in the year 2007
